The Benedict Box

So we’ve looked at the Brain Box, and how SnM was created. Here is how some other items came into being. Every Box within SnM has a story …

One of our next products requested was for something a little more ornate, and the brief was for it to replace an existing change box on the market.  So this one had to be angle proof and far more examinable than the current one being used.

So after some discussion we decided to go with an unhinged box. This would reduce the restriction of being able to be handled freely by spectators and meant everything can be flashed, giving the impression of nothing untoward.

This was the result !

We created a box that not only looked very sexy, but the mechanism was as far as we can tell unique. No other box on the market works quite the same way.

We added a locking feature so the switched billets are totally secure and the box can be tipped up, examined and nothing will be found.

Box was tested vigorously and lovingly albeit nervously given to its recipient. And we waited for it to be named. And so it was born, The Benedict. Finding out the meaning behind the name was rather cool, and hopefully the Benedict itself will fulfil its named destiny lol.

Initial feedback on the box was good.

I was very pleased to receive this in early August and have since been experimenting with this.

What is it? A beautiful wooden box with a slightly domed lid that is perfect for anyone interested in doing billet work for Q n A, add a number, or any other effect such as these. The box can be shown throughout and its deviousness is unsurpassed on the market.

Other boxes such as the Chameleon Chest or the OM box suffer from certain limitations that have to be managed.I have used the Chameleon Chest for three years or so on stage in parlour settings, and I love it,but the BB has just overtaken it.

The Benedict Box is free of such constraints and can be left in the hands of the spectator. The finish is a nice light stain and the look and feel meet my requirements perfectly.

So, how do you acquire one? Have a chat with young Harris on this forum and she will put you in the know!

Top stuff from one of our own.

And I waited. Hoping that the Benedict would make its show debut at a joint performance at Treadwells. Only to find that it was felt that maybe it was best to stick to what you know, the old change box was brought. Feeling a little hurumph, I soon chuckled when in transpired the box brought for the show, had just broken and needed emergency super glue reapir !. Thats what I call Karma. Be warned peeps haha.

So now their was no excuse and exactly one week later, I got my wish. My Benedict, on stage.

Was probably the most oddest moment of my life. Dreadfully excited, and nervous at the same time.

And the moment came, where I pressed my little buttons to move the media into the segment that the Benedict would play its part in. And I took a deep breath.

The box was awesome.  It had been pushed and made far more hands off than I ever imagined. The box is only in the hands of the performer for a few seconds for the ‘dirty’ to be done, then the spectator is able to freely take the lid off, tip the papers out and select which ones they wish. So simple, yet was so effective.

The performers review.

Last night in my show at the Clifftown Theatre in Southend, I used theBenedict Box.This what the audience experienced. In a series of routines about journeys, I introduce the idea of what one needs to travel and explain that fundamentally, we need a credit card, some cash, a mobile phone, and a passport. Images for each of these are projected on a large screen behind me.I walk into the audience with the box, remove the lid and distribute pencils and differently coloured slips of paper to about 15-18 people. Those with blue slips write down four digits from their credit card, those with green slips write down four digits from their mobile phone, and those with yellow slips write down four digits from the serial number on a note. The slips are collected in the box, the lid is placed on top, and the whole box is given to a participant who is then asked to join me on stage. She brings the box on stage, takes the lid off, and dumps the contents of the box onto the table. She then selects one slip of each colour and tells me the number on each. These are added and the total is a very large number that happens to be my birthdate, which has been in plain view on the scan of my passport projected behind me the whole time. In the context of the previous routines and narrative, this creates a nice finish and complements theings from the first set.The handling of the box is very fair and in my view fairer than other boxes I have used. The finish fits my set perefectly. There are more lovely things on display here: http://www.facebook.com/#!/album.php?ai … =696645406CheersDr T

So all is well, I guess.

As the Benedict is now fully part of the Eve of Enchantment show, it was demo’d at Tabula Mentis as part of a lecture on that show. Feedback and interest was immense and we are currently making various Benedicts and even a Baby Benedict as a custom piece.

Looch:- The Benedict Box is an absolutely wonderful box. I had an hands on with it at the weekend and fell in love. I ordered one there and then, the switch  was not even a move…beautiful

Looking forward to recieving it!

Ted:- The Benedict Box can be examined before and after, which is a pretty neat feature. Not that anyone should feel the need to examine it, of course, but it’s nice to know that the option is there if only because it demonstrates how ‘safe’ it is to use.

And Todd’s use of Evie’s box ( Shocked ) was completely convincing. I was surprised – I’ve always assumed that such devices were by definition suspect. I was wrong.
